Modern construction machinery is highly networked today. For many years, the Liebherr Group has relied on high-performance antenna solutions for the secure transmission of machine data and precise positioning. The antennas used by REEL are employed in various Liebherr machine series worldwide and form a central interface for mobile and satellite communication.
The REEL antenna used is a custom-developed antenna that has been specifically designed for the requirements and operating conditions in the construction machinery environment.
The antenna was designed, developed, and tested by REEL specifically for this application. The focus was particularly on mechanical stresses, vibrations, weather influences, and reliable GSM and GNSS performance under harsh operating conditions.
The close coordination between antenna design, electrical properties, and system integration ensures that the solution is optimally tailored to the respective machine and practical use. In addition, the system connection was adapted to Liebherr's requirements on the software side to ensure reliable data transmission and position determination.
The antennas installed by Liebherr are used for GSM applications (mobile communications) and GNSS applications (satellite positioning). They enable reliable transmission of machine data and precise location tracking – even under demanding operating conditions on construction sites or in material handling.
The antennas collect and transmit the following data, among other things:
This data forms the basis for effective machine monitoring and analysis and optimization of service and maintenance processes.
The antenna currently in use has been in service at Liebherr since the introduction of LiTU3 in 2017. Since then, it has proven itself in various machines and application scenarios.
REEL antennas are installed in the following Liebherr machines, among others:
The antennas are mainly:
In some machines, they are also installed directly in the driver's cab, depending on the machine type and design requirements.
The Liebherr Group is a family-run technology company with a broadly diversified product range. It is one of the world's largest construction machinery manufacturers and is also active in numerous other technology sectors.
Today, the group comprises over 150 companies on all continents. In 2024, Liebherr employed more than 50,000 people and achieved a consolidated total turnover of over 14 billion euros. The company was founded in 1949 by Hans Liebherr in Kirchdorf an der Iller. To this day, the employees pursue the goal of convincing customers with sophisticated solutions and contributing to technological progress.
